Health and Safety
Foundation repair work involves activity at your property that carries real physical risk. This note covers who holds the duty for safe working, what to share before the job starts, and how to raise any concern you have.
Who Is Responsible for Site Safety
The firm carrying out your foundation repairs takes on the primary duty for conducting that work safely at your property. That obligation covers how the job is performed and the effect it has on anyone present while the work is underway. You are not expected to manage the safety of the repair process itself. What you do control is your property: how it is used day to day, where access points are, and what conditions exist on site. Passing that knowledge along to the specialist who carries out the work helps them plan the job properly. Providing that information does not shift the firm's duty for safe working onto you.
What to Discuss Before the Work Begins
Before the specialist arrives, it is worth raising any questions you have about the precautions they plan to take. Foundation repair can involve excavation, heavy equipment and confined spaces, so knowing what to expect helps you prepare your property and the people in it. Let the specialist know about anything that affects access to the work area, including narrow gates, uneven ground or locked sections of the property. If children will be at home during the visit, mention this so appropriate arrangements can be made. The same applies to pets, which can be unpredictable around unfamiliar activity and equipment. If any instruction or proposed arrangement is not clear to you, ask the specialist to explain it before the work begins rather than after.
Raising a Safety Concern
If something about the way the work is being carried out worries you, say so promptly. Speak directly to the specialist on site in the first instance, since they are best placed to address a concern about the job in progress. If you are not satisfied with the response, or if you want to raise a concern before or after the visit, you can reach us through the enquiry form and we will pass your message on. No concern about safety should be left unspoken.
